Chapter 49 is the forty-ninth chapter of the Solo Leveling webtoon series written by Chu-Gong and illustrated by Dubu.
Summary[]
With communication to the outside world completely severed, Kim Chul takes charge, asserting his authority as the highest-ranking hunter present. He warns the group that the dungeon boss will likely be at least B-Rank, making survival difficult. Acknowledging that he cannot protect everyone, he decides to split the team into two: the stronger hunters who will follow him to hunt the boss, and the weaker ones who are left to fend for themselves. All A-Rank and B-Rank hunters immediately join Kim's group, while the remaining C-Rank and E-Rank hunters are forced to stay behind. When C-Rank hunter Go Myung-Hwan asks to join Kim's team, he is promptly rejected, as Kim only wants those strong enough to keep up.
Kim also reveals a critical piece of information—the Red Gate distorts time, meaning one day inside equals only one hour outside. If they fail to escape quickly, they could be trapped for months. Despite the grim circumstances, he reassures the weaker hunters that all they need to do is survive until his team eliminates the boss.
In a surprising move, B-Rank hunter Park Heejin voluntarily chooses to stay with the weaker group, raising eyebrows among the others. Kim, though puzzled, allows it without much argument, assuming she has her own reasons. Before the teams split up, Heejin privately approaches Jinwoo. She points out that Kim failed to notice the earlier ice arrow and directly questions whether Jinwoo is truly an E-Rank.
With that, the two groups head in opposite directions—Kim leading his team toward a clearing in search of the dungeon boss, while Jinwoo takes command of the weaker group, leading them deeper into the forest. As they part ways, both leaders exchange brief wishes for survival, fully aware that only the strongest will make it out alive.
