Chapter 8 (8화) is the 8th chapter of the Solo Leveling webtoon series written by Chu-Gong and illustrated by Dubu.
Summary[]
Only six Hunters survive inside the Cartenon Temple from a starting roster of seventeen, and two of those (Sung and Song) have been severely wounded. The group tries to agree on their next step, but tensions rise and bring conflict among them.
Believing that the time has come to perform the Third Commandment of the Temple ("Thou shall prove thy faith"), Kim Sangshik wants to sacrifice Song Chi-Yul at the Temple Altar, justifying himself by claiming that as Party Leader Song is responsible for their plight and the logical victim. Other Hunters don't really agree, but Song himself agrees enough to offer walking to the Altar of his own accord.
As Song Chi-Yul reaches the Altar, a flame lights up at its perimeter. Sung Jinwoo has a hunch and, having lost a leg, asks for help to reach the Altar as well. Two other Hunters carry them there and another three, separate flames also light up at different parts of the Altar's perimeter as they arrive.
Song and Sung discuss their situation. The Altar is apparently a safe enough zone, but they fear that the portal has been open for nearly seven whole days now, and they can't risk allowing it to become permanently open if that time period is completed without the defeat of the Dungeon Boss.
Sung therefore concludes that the final tests must be completed before it is too late, and so he requires the presence of the last two survivors (Lee and Kim) at the Altar. They follow his request, and with all survivors at the Altar a door opens in the outer chamber perimeter. The group briefly considers whether they should leave through it, but then they notice that the gigantic statues inside the chamber have begun moving towards the Altar...
