The Itarim (이타림), also known as the Outer Gods, are a race of gods who are responsible for having created all of existence and hail from outer universes. They serve as the main antagonists of Solo Leveling: Ragnarok.

History[]

The Itarim are a race of supreme beings who have existed since the beginning of time and are known to have created countless worlds ever since their inception. In this endless cycle of creation, the Itarim became incredibly bored with how dull their lives were and decided to entertain themselves by watching their creations wage endless war against each other.

At some point after the deaths of the Monarchs, the Itarim discovered that one of their own had been killed by his own creations and began to observe the world that he designed since it no longer had a master. As they had no loyalty towards each other, the Itarim only saw his death as an opportunity that they could use and sought to conquer the world he had created for themselves.

Seeking to claim the vast amount of mana that this world had to offer, the Itarim sent their Apostles to track down its source. However, their presence did not go unnoticed and eventually drew the attention of the Rulers, who joined forces in order to stop them. Unfortunately, no matter how many Apostles they killed, more would arrive to take their place and with the death of the Absolute Being, the Rulers had long lost the ability to replenish their numbers. As a result, they would have ultimately lost their war with the Itarim had Sung Jinwoo not arrived and bolstered their forces with his ability to revive the dead into shadow soldiers under his command.

This would lead to a war of attrition between the Rulers and Itarim and despite the Rulers’ best efforts, some of the Apostles were able to break through through defenses and make it to the human world. Seeing that mankind was now in danger, the Rulers came together to deliberate on what they could possibly do to protect them and after some discussion, agreed that sending reinforcements to defend the humans from the Apostles was too risky, as it would divide their forces and could potentially result in their defeat.

Seeing that there was no other option, Jinwoo finally removed the seal that he had placed on his son Suho when was the latter was still a toddler and ordered Beru to return home to serve as his adviser so that humanity would have a way to defend themselves against the Apostles without requiring aid from the Rulers.[1]
