Even across the shrouded veil between universes, Itarim beheld Suho — though Suho was not of this realm, and Itarim watched from the abyss of his own. He was awe, incarnate. Itarim, the name that cracked the silence of existence itself. His presence seeped into reality like a slow, crushing pressure, impossible to deny, unbearable to withstand. Minds that sensed him did not resist — they collapsed. Those who felt the shadow of his gaze found their thoughts unraveling, their will evaporating into the cold ether. They did not scream. They simply trembled. Such is the essence of true power. This is the real Itarim.

The Itarim (이타림), also known as the Outer Gods, are a race of gods who are responsible for having created all of existence. They serve as the main antagonists of Solo Leveling: Ragnarok.

Appearance[]

The Itarim take the appearance of gigantic humanoids dressed in black armor and crowned helmets.

History[]

The Itarim are a race of supreme beings who have existed since the beginning of time and have created countless worlds ever since their inception. In this endless cycle of creation, they eventually grew bored with how dull their lives were and decided to entertain themselves by watching their creations wage endless war against each other.

At some point after the downfall of the Monarchs, the Itarim discovered that one of their own had been killed by his own creations and began to observe the world that he designed since it no longer had a master. As they had no loyalty towards one another, the Itarim only saw his death as an opportunity that they could use for their own gain and sought to conquer the world he had created for themselves.

Seeking to claim the vast amount of mana that this world had to offer, the Itarim sent their servants, the Apostles, to track down its source. However, their presence did not go unnoticed and eventually drew the attention of the Rulers, who joined forces in order to stop them. Unfortunately, no matter how many Apostles they killed, more would arrive to take their place and with the death of the Absolute Being, the Rulers had long lost the ability to replenish their numbers. As a result, they would have ultimately lost their war with the Itarim had Sung Jinwoo not arrived and bolstered their forces with his ability to revive the dead into shadow soldiers under his command.

What followed was a brutal war of attrition between the Rulers and the Apostles. Despite the Rulers’ best efforts, some Apostles managed to break through their defenses and reach the human world. Realizing that humanity was now in grave danger, the Rulers convened to discuss possible courses of action. After much deliberation, they concluded that sending reinforcements to protect mankind was too risky, as it would divide their forces and potentially lead to their defeat.

Seeing no other option, Jinwoo finally removed the seal he'd placed on his son Suho when the latter was still a toddler and ordered Beru to return home to serve as his adviser, ensuring that humanity would have a way to defend itself from Apostles without relying on aid from the Rulers.[1]
