Overview

Lim Tae-Gyu (림태규) is a Korean S-Rank Hunter and the Guild Master of the Fiend Guild.

Appearance

Lim is a young man with shaggy black hair and a small goatee. In his first appearance, he wore a black tux. During the Jeju Island Raid, he wore a suit of brown armor along a brown hat, and wielded a light golden bow.

In the revised timeline, Lim does not appear to look much different as he did in the original timeline. The only noticeable difference is that his hair has grown longer and reaches down to the center of his back.

Personality

Lim appears to be somewhat unconfident in his abilities as a hunter, as displayed when he silently hoped to himself that the Japanese S-Rank Hunters would go easy on him and his teammates during their 4v4 sparring match. However, he is happy to do his job when he is needed. Ironically, despite how rich he is, he appears to be a bit of a penny-pincher, as he ordered his guild members to move Lee Minsung to the safest position in the attack formation during the Jeju Island Raid due to how much he was worth.

In the revised timeline, Tae-Gyu is more confident and assertive with Minsung as he grew frustrated at his former master's antics and took action to try prevent the Korean Hunter Association arresting his Vice-Head Guildmaster. However, he clearly values Minsung's friendship as he didn't wanted to kill Minsung or severely harm the former human.

History

Back when Lim first founded the Fiend Guild, it was the strongest guild in all of South Korea. However, it later lost this status when Baek Yoonho along with several other of his high-ranking subordinates left the Field Guild to form his own guild, which would later become the White Tiger Guild.

Jeju Island Arc

Lim was present during the meeting between the Korean S-Ranks and the Japanese S-Ranks, and participated in a 4v4 sparring match between the two factions, with Minoru Hoshino as his designated opponent. Although Lim was momentarily able to force Minoru to defend himself with his arrows, the latter easily overpowered him and took him out of the match fairly quickly. When Goto Ryuji decided to spar with Sung Jinwoo, Lim watched the two of them fight each other and was stunned by how they were so fast that his eyes couldn't keep up with their movements.

Shortly before he was deployed onto Jeju Island, Lim ordered his guildmates to place Minsung in the rear lines of their battle formation since he was an incredibly expensive investment. Not long after that, he and the other Korean S-Ranks were dropped down onto Jeju Island in order to play their designated role of slaying the Ant Queen in the 4th Jeju Island Raid.

Ragnarok

Tae-Gyu would work as Minsung's chaffeur and had cleaned up after the man during his time as a famous celebrity. When the Cataclysm hit the human world, Tae-Gyu would find himself turning into an S-rank Hunter where he asked Minsung's partnership in forming the Reaper's Guild. As Tae-Gyu handled field operations, Minsung would finance and perform administrative work to solidify and improve the Reaper's Guild stability and reputation as a Guild.

As time went on, Tae-Gyu slowly learned Minsung's illegal dealings and demanded the man to stop but to no avail. During a raid in Southeast Asia, he would call Minsung to cut off ties with the unknown criminal elements before hanging up. He would eventually return to South Korea and forced Minsung to comply with the Korean Hunters Association's demand to close down Paju Field Dungeon with the justification that they are onto Minsung's criminal activity. He would also eventually receive a call and attend the Korean Hunter Association's building, receiving Tiel's offer to join his guild.

While standing by alongside Choi Jong-In, the two would have a brief friendly spat before admitting he didn't knew how depraved his former vice guild master has become. After catching the sight of the brainwashed A-ranks full power, he would rush to aid the participating hunters only to leave to track down the escaping Minsung. He would caught on and stumbled upon Sung Suho engaging with the transformed Minsung. He then fired off several warning shots, growing irritated as they evaded his attacks before deciding to take down the transformed A-rank Hunter while briefly lamenting how he had to resort to lethal attacks. However, he would get distracted by a shadow soldier set by Suho and inevitably caused him to lose his targets.

Abilities

Lim is the strongest ranger-type hunter in Korea and performs well in battle even without his bow. However, this means that he works best from a distance and is at a tremendous disadvantage in close combat. Also, despite his status, Lim is actually mediocre in strength for a S-Rank, as noted by Hanekawa, and quite possibly one of the weakest S-Ranks in the world.

  • Magic Arrows: Lim can instantaneously create magic arrows from his hands, with no more than five at a time. These arrows pack a good punch and were able to not only able to easily damage the interior of the Korean Hunters' Gym, but also easily pierce through the Ant Queen's skin. He can also use these arrows like normal ones, firing them from the bow to improve their speed.
  • Markmanship: Lim is a very skilled archer and is able to deliver precise shots to his opponents' weak spots.
  • Enhanced Senses: Lim's senses are acute enough he could detect the presence of a shadow soldier manifesting.
  • Enhanced Speed: Lim was fast enough to chase after Minsung and keep up with the movements of two high levelled Awakened.
  • Enhanced Endurance: Lim is strong enough to handle a slamming from Hoshino.

Trivia
