North Korea (북한), formally known as Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), was a country that covered the northern half of the Korean peninsula. Just like in the real world, it was a totalitarian dictatorship known for having an imperial cult around its ruling family, the Kim dynasty, extremely hostile relations with South Korea due to unresolved tensions from the Korean War, and arguably the worst human rights record out of any country in the modern world.
In the original timeline, North Korea maintained cold tensions with South Korea and utilized its hunters to oppose any military transgressions made by its southern counterpart.[1] However, when a massive S-Rank gate suddenly spawned in the skies of Seoul, the supreme leader of North Korea decided to put politics aside and offered to send his best hunters to South Korea to help them confront this new threat. This unexpected display of solidarity acted as a spark to encourage other nations to send their most capable hunters to South Korea in order to help them clear this new gate and prevent Seoul from being totally destroyed.[2]
In the revised timeline, the North Korean government was caught off-guard when gates started spawning across the country and did next to nothing to deal with this new threat. This led the awakened members of the North Korean population to launch an uprising against their government and since conventional weaponry is practically useless against people who've awakened, the Kim regime was swiftly overthrown. However, despite the fact that the North Korea was finally free from the oppression that it had suffered under the Kim dynasty, the revolution did nothing to deal with the gates that had already opened earlier. As a result, all of these gates eventually underwent dungeon breaks, causing a massive refugee crisis.
Currently, North Korea as a country no longer exists and has become a wasteland infested with monsters and littered with field-type dungeons. This has led the Korean Hunters Association to station a group of hunters along the border to prevent the monsters from these field-type dungeons from spilling over into South Korea and attacking its civilian population.
